Slept in until 8:00 and looked out to see a thick fog. Okay, a day to
stay home and do chores. Ran into Jan and Kirby; Jan, based on a dream she had,
was going to see if an apartment (that Kirby was interested in) was available,
and Kirby was cleaning a rug. We arranged to meet at 14:30 when Jan announced
they now have an apartment and Kirby’s rug was clean. We went for a drive into
the Jura, to the small town of Orvin. There were many neat old buildings dating
to the 16th century. We walked up the hill to the newer section of
town, and the home of one of the children I treat was pointed out. This family
uses many energy-saving devices such as a windmill, solar panels, and a heating
system using excrement. The Js themselves were unpacking their car
after a ski trip. We waved hello and continued onward to see a concrete house being
built into a hillside. It is said the house has a swimming pool in its basement
which is reached by tunnel from the garage built into the hill.
We drove on to Lamboing, where we had a dim view of the Alps, and it
appeared we were looking down on them! We decided to stop for coffee, and drove
down to Prêles to find a road
taking us up to Diesse. We could se the huge telecommunications tower on
Chasseral.

Continued westward to Nods to a small tavern, where Kirby had beer
and peanuts, Jan had mint tea, and I had regular tea (so much for coffee!).
There was a jukebox, a couple pinball machines, and baggies on the ceiling to
catch mysterious drips. Drove back to Biel via Lignières, La Neuveville, and along the Bielersee/Lake Biel. Jan and
Kirby had a date with Christian and I returned to reading my funny book. But
later Jan came by to invite me to the movies at the Palace Theater. Jan and I
walked down to see “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Better the second time! Kirby had
driven, so we all drove back home in the car.

During the break in French class, M. Bloch brought out two baguettes and a bouteille/bottle de pastis, an anise-flavored liqueur. The drink was rather strong, like a sweet medicine. The bread was delicious!
